What Is Migraine Headache?

Migraine is a neurological syndrome means it is a form of vascular headache, characterized by distorted bodily perceptions, severe headaches, and nausea. Migraine headache is caused by a mixture of vasodilatation (enlargement of blood vessels) and the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that coil about the blood vessels Migraine headache is more common in women to men.

Causes and Symptoms of Migraine

Migraine is the name given to severe headaches, normally lasting from 4 to 72 hours. It is mainly felt as pulsing or throbbing in one area of the head. During migraine, there is contraction or dilation of the blood vessels. Some of the factor that can trigger a migraine attack anxiety, stress, lack of food or sleep, exposure to light and hormonal change (in women).

Types of migraine:
There are mainly 2 types of migraine headache.

1. Classic migraine (migraine with aura):

Aura refers to feelings and symptoms you notice shortly before the headache begins. These early symptoms are also called a prodrome. These symptoms, which often begin about 30 minutes or less before the headache. The prodrome or aura may last for five to 20 minutes, or it may continue even after the headache subsides.

Symptoms of aura include:

* blind spots or scotomas
* blindness in half of your visual field in one or both eyes (hemianopsia)
* seeing zigzag patterns (fortification)
* seeing flashing lights (scintilla)
* feeling prickling lights (parasthesia)
* weakness
* seeing things that aren't really there (hallucinations)

2. Common migraine (migraine without aura):

This is same as migraine with aura, except that sufferers of common migraines often bypass the aura phase. Most sufferers of common migraines endure the same symptoms as experienced with classic migraines.

Some Home Remedies for Migraine:

> Exercise: Regular exercise helps us cope with pain. Especially people suffering from migraine can get relief as it helps alleviate the pain.
> Avoid: Reduce white flour products, sugar, confectionery, rich cakes, pastries, sweets, refined cereals, greasy foods, tinned or preserved foods, pickles, condiments and sauces.
> Garlic: Include garlic in your diet.
> Heat and Cold: Avoid extremes, which can make things worse! Try a cold pack wrapped in a couple layers of towel on your neck, or one can even try putting your hands in hot water, which seems to pull the pressure out of your head.
> Use Lemon Crust: Lemon crust can cure migraine. Grind lemon crust and apply as paste on forehead. Migraine cures using this remedy has been found very effective and long lasting by many. Lemon peel is helpful in solving migraine headache.
