Successful Methods Of Treatment For Congestive Heart Failure And Depression

By: Alan B. Densky, CH

Congestive heart failure, or CHF, is among the most common chronic health conditions in the United States. Almost five million individuals suffer from this condition, and 500,000 more are diagnosed with it every year. This disease may be mild, or it may become quite severe and interfere with normal life.

Individuals with CHF experience numerous changes from their previous daily routines. They must take medications to decrease fluid buildup and to lessen the work performed by their heart muscle. Some of these result in anxiety and exhaustion. These medications may also hinder physical intimacy with a spouse or significant other.

One other problem that people with this condition encounter is the requirement for major dietary changes. Many must stop eating red meat, avoid foods with a lot of fat or salt, or limit the quantity of fluids they consume every day. These people are instructed to diet and exercise to stay as healthy as they can.

The truth is, however, individuals with CHF do not have as much physical endurance as before. Instead, they must stand by while friends and relatives play tennis, run, or jog. This results in despair and loneliness. In addition, many patients mourn their loss of physical health and wellness.

Many individuals who encounter this and have not yet reached retirement age also have to stop working. In addition to causing financial stress and anxiety, this may increase feelings of isolation and loneliness. They are completely alone. Rather than of bantering with the worker at the next desk, they stare at the television while everyone else continues living.

Sometimes, sufferers take depression or anti-anxiety medications to deal with these issues. Others opt for counseling or group therapy to help them with fulfilling socialization needs and working through the mourning created through their newly restricted lifestyles.

A more effective way of dealing with this kind of depression, however, has gained recent attention and gained almost immediate approval among clients who have tried it. Additionally, unlike medications or psychotherapy, this technique is quite economical. Clients can learn its use without experiencing further money stresses.

This technique, which utilizes a combination of Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), aids individuals to learn to relax and find peace and tranquility in the midst of daily life. These techniques assist clients to accept the new limitations of life with CHF while encouraging them to continue living life as completely as possible. Even depression that results from medicines can be painlessly treated through the proper use of the techniques utilized by hypnotherapy and NLP. Two of these approaches are anchoring and the Flash.

Ericksonian Hypnotherapy is often referred to as conversational hypnotherapy. It includes techniques for supplying post-hypnotic suggestions rooted in a discussion or figure of speech. The benefit of this method is that it eliminates the subconscious opposition to direct suggestions that is almost always included in the use of more traditional types of hypnotherapy.

With anchoring, hypnotherapists and NLP Practitioners coach people to focus on happy thoughts and situations from the past where they felt relaxed and capable. As the individual becomes immersed in these memories, they are able to experience these emotions once more. The client then creates a concrete anchor for these feelings by placing two fingers together. The subconscious mind creates a connection between the actual touch of these two fingers, and the good feelings. Later, upon encountering a stressful or depressing moment, an anchor is triggered by placing together the two fingers, evoking feelings of peace and calm.

The Flash method is also quite useful to individuals who are trying to conquer depression. The Flash technique programs the brain to automatically utilize the destructive thoughts that are causing stress and sadness, as triggers for beneficial perspectives that stimulate relaxation and tranquility. Over time, people usually become almost unable to think negative thoughts!

Summary: Individuals with CHF often encounter sadness as a result of mourning the decline of their physical health and well-being. Other elements that sometimes help cause depression include medications and money worries. Both Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP provide excellent strategies for assisting individuals to deal with sadness without having to spend enormous amounts of time and money.
