Junk Food: Why You Should Avoid It?

Junk food is an empty calorie food. These foods have little enzyme producing vitamins, minerals, amino acids and contain high level of calories from fat. Any food that has poor nutritional value is considered unhealthy and may be called a junk. A food that is high in fat, sodium, and or sugar is knows as a junk food. Junk food is easy to carry, purchase and consume. Generally, a junk food is given a very attractive appearance by adding food additives and colors to enhance flavor, texture, appearance, and increasing long self life.

Since junk food is high in fats and sugars, it is responsible for obesity, dental cavities, Type 2 diabetes and heart diseases.

A fast food may also be a junk food. Look into the calories present in fast food of different make.

Junk food mostly has bad effects on teenagers:

> By eating junk food, a teenager will not get any nutrients required for proper functioning of the body. This means that the teenager will always be tired and fatigued to do any work.

> A teenager will feel constantly hungry and weak due to imbalance created by the junk food.

> Junk food is full of fat and calories. This will get converted to fat deposit in the body.

> Junk foods do not contain any nutrients that are beneficial to the human body. In most cases, these foods are filled with harmful carbohydrates, fats and cholesterol that do not provide any useful energy.

> Being over-weight affects the flow of oxygen to the brain cells and this can adversely affect your teen concentration and memory.

> Consumption of junk food can cause chronic degenerative diseases, as well as hypertension, obesity, cardio-vascular problems and glucose intolerance.

> It has been seen that teenagers who eat junk food are more prone to mood swings and other behavioral issues.

> Junk food diet is a major cause of heart diseases.
