Jaundice: Causes, Symptoms And Natural Remedies

Jaundice is a symptom of many medical problems but it is most often associated with conditions of the liver or the gall bladder. Jaundice causes yellow skin and eyes because of an excess amount of the bile pigment bilirubin in the fat layer under the skin.

Causes of Jaundice

Bilirubin comes from red blood cells. When red blood cells get old, they are destroyed. Hemoglobin, the iron-containing chemical in red blood cells that carries oxygen, is released from the destroyed red blood cells after the iron it contains is removed. The chemical that remains in the blood after the iron is removed becomes bilirubin.

The liver has many functions. One of the liver’s functions is to produce and secrete bile into the intestines to help digest dietary fat. Another is to remove toxic chemicals or waste products from the blood, and bilirubin is a waste product. The liver removes bilirubin from the blood.

Malfunctioning of the liver release bile salts into the intestine, which get mixed with blood and give yellow color to the skin.

Gallstones, inflammation to the liver(hepatitis) are the main cause. Dirty surroundings and overcrowding may lead to an epidemic. Anemia, tuberculosis, malaria and typhoid are other cause.

Symptoms of Jaundice

Loss of appetite. Yellow coloration of the eyes, skin, tongue and urine. Dull pain in the liver region. Nausea, severe constipation, extreme weakness, vomiting, fever, headache and undue fatigue.

Natural remedies for Jaundice

Foods that your should avoid Cakes, chocolates, Pastries, Non-vegetarian food, Ice-creams, Alcohol, Spicy food, and all heavy food. Food that you should eat is Vegetables such as tomatoes and radish, curd and rice, Lemon, Dry fruits like dried dates, almonds and cardamon.

Try to stick to a balanced diet in order to achieve and maintain health.
Take proper rest, Go for a walk in early in the morning and walk bare foot on a grass, morning sun rays is good. But do avoid excessive heat, avoid stress, and exertions.
