How Can I Repair My Dry Skin Now?

It's never too early to start to take care of your skin. But by the same token, it's also never too late. Just because you have patches of dry skin, or even the beginning of fine lines and wrinkles, does not mean you should throw in the towel. Instead you should pick up a bottle of moisturizer!

Moisturizer is dry skin's best friend. Once you are past grade school, regular bar soap is not something that should touch your face, in my opinion. There are gentler alternatives, like cleansing creams, even ones that come in bar form, if you just can't give up that bar of soap.

Just as important for caring for your dry skin as using moisturizer, is prevention. Your mom was right about staying out of the sun. Remember when women wore sun-bonnets when they were outside tending their gardens? The biggest mistake our generation made was to throw out those bonnets and take up the bad habit of sun-worshipping. A lot of the damage that starts to show up on our skin as we age is the result of excessive sun exposure.

Today there are so many beauty products that contain sun protection ingredients, it is a shame not to take advantage of them. If you wear foundation make-up daily, that is a great way to ensure your face has some sun protection if you choose the right foundation with an SPF.

If you have a combination of dry and oily skin, don't despair of being able to repair your dry skin. There are moisturizing products made especially for combination skin that won't irritate your dry skin or aggravate your oily skin.

Be sure to wear your moisturizer both day and night. You will probably want to use a different product depending on the time of day or night, because the overnight formulas are thicker and made to really penetrate your skin.

Years ago it was common to hear how older actresses would lather on something like petroleum jelly on their face and hands before going to sleep. Thank goodness there are better products on the market today that won't leave such a mess on your bed sheets and in your hair.

Another reason we are fortunate today is because we can save time and money by researching products, reviews and prices online before spending a single dime. There's no reason not to try to repair your dry skin - after all, it's the only skin you've got.
