Enlarged Prostate Relief. The Key Ingredient.

By: Graeme Lanham

As a man in his sixties, I am well aware of the problems caused by an enlarged prostate or BPH. A major symptom is frequent night-time visits to the bathroom. This is not only annoying but tiring due to the sleep disturbance caused.

I have tried numerous formulas with limited degrees of success. Over the past six months, my research has led to the discovery of one key ingredient common to the botanicals in most prostate relief formulas.

Four important plants, saw palmetto, pygeum, stinging nettle and pumpkin seeds, contain abundant amounts of a key ingredient known as beta-sitosterol.

Beta-sitosterol is a plant sterol found in almost all plants, mostly in very small amounts. Its many uses include helping to maintain normal cholesterol, promotion of prostate health and helping to balance blood sugar levels. An added benefit appears to be related to the treatment of male pattern baldness.

Its research credentials are impressive.

A 1999 review of four clinical trials involving 519 men with mild to moderate BPH found that beta-sitosterol provided notable relief from urinary problems. It also increase urinary flow and caused few side effects. Interestingly, benefits matched those commonly seen with prescription BPH drugs.

The British journal The Lancet published a 1995 study of 200 men who suffered from an enlarged prostate. Over a period of six months, the study concluded that: “Significant improvement in symptoms and urinary flow parameters show the effectiveness of beta-sitosterol in the treatment of BPH.”

A similar study, published by the British Journal of Urology in 1997, studied 177 BPH sufferers over a period of six months. The results showed that: “There were significant improvements over placebo in those treated with beta-sitosterol.” This led the authors to conclude that: “Beta-sitosterol is an effective option in the treatment of BPH.”

None of the clinical trials identified any significant side effects of beta-sitosterol implementation. This non-patentable natural remedy could be considered as an alternative to pharmaceutical drugs for the treatment of men with prostate problems.

A prostate formula containing rich amounts of beta-sitosterol is now available in a new product called “Healthwise Menz.” For further information visit: http://www.healthwisemen.com
