Constipation Relief With Herbal Remedies

Herbal remedies are generally safer and produce fewer side effects as compared to synthetic based laxatives. Constipation is a condition whereby sufferers find difficulty in smooth bowel movements. It is a problem that many of us suffer from due to a poor diet and unhealthy diet.

Dietary changes can help in constipation relief. A typical American diet is usually deficient in fiber and water. Hence, switching to eating foods that are fiber-rich and one that involves drinking plenty of water can do a lot to help.

Bulking laxatives can help provide constipation relief by introducing fiber and lubrication that promotes bowel movements while cleansing the system. Natural remedies such as psyllium husk, flax seed, and fenugreek provide bulk in your bowels; thereby cleansing your colon. However, it is important that you drink sufficient water should you use these types of laxatives.

Herbal remedies can aid in constipation relief by stimulating the function of intestines. One good example is cascara sagrada. Nevertheless, you need to be wary about using certain herbal laxatives as they may cause diarrhea and dehydration. Irritating laxatives include aloe, which is not the same as aloe juice. It is extremely strong and needs close monitoring. Castor oil serves as a laxative, but can cause dehydration and hence, chemical imbalances in the body.

Chamomile tea to help soothe the stomach is also helpful.

If your constipation recurs several times over due to an unhealthy diet and lifestyle, then be aware that using herbal laxatives alone is not good enough. You will need to take a holistic approach to dealing with your constipation problem. These include adding herbs to your regimen of cleansing, exercising on a regular basis to promote an overall calming effect, adopting a cleansing diet and balancing your energy with yoga.
