7 Weight Loss Tips To Keep The Motivation Alive

By: Evelyn Lim

Weight loss is not going to happen overnight. It will be wishful thinking on your part to believe all the diet ads out there about achieving weight loss in anything less than 14 days. To lose weight, requires you to eat healthily, cut down your consumption of fatty foods as well as to exercise regularly. This requires work and determination for a period.

Hence, keeping the motivation alive for any weight loss program that you put yourself on is very important. You do not want to lose heart, when your weight loss is not as much as your desired goals. Here are the top 7 ways to keep yourself motivated while you are on your weight loss program:

1. Set yourself achievable mini-goals. By setting goals and non-food rewards for smaller amounts of weight loss, it keeps you excited about losing weight. If you weight 275, then setting an initial target of say 250. Give yourself a reward such as pedicures, manicures, a good book, a new CD, or other fun little gift when you have hit these goals.

2. Read weight loss books and magazines. The more you become educated about weight and its related topics such as diet, food, fitness and nutrition, the more likely you are going to be motivated to stick to your weight loss program. True-life weight loss stories can inspire you, because you can lend from the experience of another to beat the bulge.

3. Have fun while exercising. Choose an exercise program that you enjoy doing. Refrain from adopting one that you find it a chore to go to. To inject some fun, you may want to consider dancing as an activity that can help you lose weight while enjoying some music.

4. Watch weight loss shows. From “Biggest Loser” to “Fit Nation” and more, there are many weight loss shows that you can watch on television to keep inspired.

5. When the going is tough, remember the big picture. Yes, it is hard to lose weight, but each time when you feel like you are losing motivation, remember how much better you will feel physically and mentally when you lose some weight. It will be great to wear smaller sized clothes but having your health back should also be considered.

6. Focus on the positives. If you simply have no time to exercise as scheduled for a week, do not beat yourself over it. Think about all of those other days that you did exercise instead of concentrating on the days that you missed. By focusing on the positives, you can help to keep yourself going.

7. Finding a weight loss or exercise buddy. You may want to find a companion or friend who is also interested in losing weight. Or you may want to find a friend who is keen on the exercise program that you have chosen to adopt. Having a buddy can help ensure that you stick to your appointments at the gym and not lose sight of your goals for weight loss and fitness!
